Deus Ex Machina Road Bike

‘The Deus’ (aka Red Robin) is an about-face on the normal Millfield Velo philosophy. It’s a new frame, styled to look like an old one.

We’re not sure of the heritage of the frame; Deus put their names to everything as a start-up, so our best guess is that this is a late-naughties mass-produced alloy frame, probably 6061.

This is the only one I’ve ever seen. Maybe it’s a one-off design exercise, who knows.

It’s a 60cm frame, with a flat-crown steel 1″ fork that is strangely comfortable to ride.

The paintwork is a lovely cream with red retro graphics. It’s art-deco simple, and a real head-turner.

The groupset is a versatile Shimano Sora 3 x 8, with a 12-28 freewheel mounted to an old-school Campagnolo hub.

The ‘bars are old-school alloy, with a polished stem.

The wheels are matching Mavic rims at both ends, with a heavy-duty Mavic hub at the front. They were super-strong and never failed in the day.

Shimano Tiagra brakes and some neat red pedals detail what is a really lovely bike.
