Millfield Special #8 – The FatBike

We love a project!
This story starts with a carbon fatbike frame that a guy brought into the shop. It had seen some use but was now stripped. Straight away we could see it was a quality unit, light but super strong. Through-axle dropouts, tapered steerer, internal cabling.

“Do you want to buy this?”
“Yes mate, we do.”
Quick exchange of cash and bona fides…voila!…we own a fatbike.

The frame needed a bit of TLC, and we didn’t really like the colour, so we sent it to Star Enamellers for a makeover in VW deep blue metallic with red decals. The cable guide cover under the BB was left the original colour for sentimentality.

We mostly ride XC around here and it hasn’t snowed in Millfield since 1965, so we built this bike to be fast in the bush. Those 3.8 tyres are actually skinny for a fatbike!

Sunringle Mulefut 27.5″ wheels with Maxxis Minion FBF/FBR tyres, tubeless at 12psi. Yeah, you heard that right…12psi.

RockShox Bluto 32mm airfork with 100mm of travel and H & L speed compression adjustment.

SRAM 12sp NX/SX drivetrain with an eThirteen TRS Plus 9-46 cassette on XD hub. 9-46=511%…yeah baby yeah.

Shimano MT200/500 brakes, 180F/160R.

Deity Brendog ‘bars, ESI grips, Crankbrothers Stamp pedals, WTB saddle on an alloy Easton seat post. GoPro front mount for camera or headlight.

Light and ready for bike packing or adventures, it’s available for sale. POA!
